GRINDING WHEEL HUBS

Carbo-Vitrobond GW

Atlas' custom formulated product for grinding hubs provides the following advantages:

  • For use on vitrified grinding and abrasive wheel hubs

  • Specific Gravity is lower than lead, resulting in less weight per hub

  • Shrinkage is lower than lead

  • Provides an excellent bond to the wheel and will not lose strength or adhesion under conditions of vibration, thermal or physical shock

  • Self-lubricating to the drive shaft

MORTAR

Carbo-Vitrobond® Corrosion Resistant Mortar

Carbo-Vitrobond is a 100% carbon filled, plasticized, hot-pour, sulfur based mortar.

Benefits include:

  • Easily melts

  • Does not settle out in the pot

  • Very little odor

  • Pours smoothly and freely

  • Dense and strong

Principle uses include:

  • Corrosive conditions involving hydrofluoric acid or fluoride salts

  • Bonding agent for acid resistant brick in lining reaction vessels, storage tanks, towers, trenches, sumps, processing tanks and equipment, pickling tanks for stainless steel and waste treatment tanks

  • Installation of corrosion resistant industrial floors

MORTAR

Vitrobond® Corrosion Resistant Mortar

Vitrobond is a plasticized, hot-pour, silica filled sulfur based mortar which was introduced by Atlas in 1931 as its first corrosion resistant mortar. Since that time, Vitrobond has become the industry standard for economical hot-pour cements.

The exclusive formulation produces a compound with the following unique combination of properties:

  • Improved thermal shock resistance, yet does not impart the objectionable odor usually associated with sulfur cements

  • Specially selected aggregate that will not settle out upon melting

  • Molten cement that is extremely fluid and pours quite easily without lumps

Principle uses include:

  • Used with acid resistant brick to construct corrosion resistant masonry sheathing to protect vessels, processing tanks and equipment, storage tanks, pickling tanks, manholes, waste treatment tanks and sumps

  • Installation of corrosion resistant industrial floors

CAPPING COMPOUNDS

Vitrobond® Capping Compound

Vitrobond is a mineral-filled, sulfur-based compound formulated for capping concrete test cylinders. It is easily melted, pours smoothly, possesses high compressive strength and gives consistent test results. Vitrobond has been used for many years by independent testing laboratories, pre-stressed concrete structures manufacturers and federal, state and local testing agencies. This compound is suitable for running compressive strength tests upon high strength concrete.

Vitrobond offers the following advantages:

  • Ready-to-use—just melt and pour

  • No mixing or possibility of low strength or erratic results from improper proportions

  • Does not require controlled room temperature or humidity conditions during pouring of caps

  • Does not require moist curing or other tedious handling procedures

  • Not affected by dry cylinders Can be tested two hours after cooling

  • Virtually no settling in the melting pot, thus, results are uniform from cylinder to cylinder

INSULATOR COMPOUNDS

Vitrobond® 120

The jointing compound must contain at least 55% refined sulfur completely soluble in carbon disulfide and present primarily in the rhombic form. It must contain not more than 45% of a properly selected aggregate. The aggregate must be at least 90% silica and have a particle size so distributed as to give optimum physical properties. No clay, shale, brick dust or similar fillers shall be used.

This cement must meet ASTM C287 for chemical resistant mortars and must show weight change of less than 1% when 1" cylinders are exposed to the following corrosive materials for 30 days at 150ºF (66ºC):

  • 10% Chromic Acid

  • 60% Acetic Acid

  • 25% Sulfuric Acid

  • 25% Hydrochloric Acid

  • 10% Nitric Acid

The compound must act as an electrical insulator and show no passage of current when electrodes are placed apart a distance of 1/2" on the surface under a potential of 45 volts.

INSULATOR COMPOUNDS

T-Vitrobond® 120

The jointing compound must contain at least 55% sulfur completely soluble in carbon disulfide. It must contain not more than 43% of a properly selected aggregate. The aggregate must be at least 90% silica and have a particle size so distributed as to give optimum physical properties. No clay, shale, brick dust or similar fillers shall be used. The product shall contain polysulfide rubber plasticizer.
